Obama will hand out the National Medals of Arts and National Humanities Medals at the White House on July 10.
Along with Lucas, Obama will honour jazz musician Herb Alpert, opera singer Renee Fleming, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter Tony Kushner, artist Ellsworth Kelly and others with the arts award.
Author Joan Didion and poet Kay Ryan are among those set to be honoured with the humanities medal.
